DALLAS and CLEAR LAKE, Texas, Dec. 14, 2017 – Healthcare Real Estate Insights™ (HREI) magazine has named the Heartis® Clear Lake independent living, assisted living and memory care community a winner of the 2017 HREI Insights Awards™. The development won the award for the Best New Post-Acute or Senior Living Facility.

Caddis, a national healthcare real estate firm headquartered in Dallas, developed and owns the 157,512 square foot senior living community at 14520 Old Galveston Road in Clear Lake, Texas, near Houston.

The annual awards, the first totally dedicated to recognizing excellence in the areas of healthcare real estate (HRE) development and executive leadership, are presented by HREI, a national magazine that covers HRE development, financing and investment. The awards were presented Dec. 7 during the RealShare Healthcare Real Estate Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz.

“With Heartis Clear Lake, as with all of our senior communities, we make sure to find the ideal site that will serve residents and their families,” says Caddis CEO and Partner Jason L. Signor. “Heartis Clear Lake is near the Bay Area’s medical complex with easy access from Interstate 45 and is located in a quiet residential setting that feels like home. We also designed and developed Heartis Clear Lake so that it would offer residents a wide variety of amenities and the highest standards of compassionate care.”

“The HREI Insights Awards judges were very impressed with the hard work and care that Caddis put into developing Heartis Clear Lake,” HREI Publisher Murray Wolf says. “They did their homework and overcame a number of daunting challenges to develop a beautiful community situated in a great setting, offering its residents an impressive list of amenities.”

In developing Heartis Clear Lake, Caddis conducted a supply and demand analysis of the Clear Lake area in Webster, Texas, which revealed the need for more senior living options. Caddis also found that no senior community in the area offered an innovative, therapeutic “Main Street” concept to aid with memory care so the company decided to develop a Main Street to offer a unique service to residents. The streetscape includes a movie theater, ‘50s-style ice cream parlor, art studio and greenhouse along with street lights and park benches.

During the construction process, Caddis upgraded the storm drainage system and ensured the design of the residence could withstand the natural disasters that often occur on the Texas coast. When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, the residents were vacated at Heartis’ expense and brought by private bus to Heartis Waco. After the hurricane, there was no flooding or damage to the community due to the excellent drainage upgrades.

Heartis Clear Lake offers a total of 167 spacious independent living, assisted living and memory care apartments; a large dining room serving delicious, chef-prepared meals; daily specialized programming and activities; beautifully landscaped grounds and gardens; a fitness center; media room; salon and spa; interior courtyards; and other amenities.

Heartis Clear Lake is proving to be popular with local seniors and their families. Caddis executives state that the assisted living units are 100 percent occupied within 10 months of opening their doors.

Caddis projects and executives have been named Finalists 11 times and Winners four times in the last five years of the highly competitive HREI Insights Awards. Previous winners include Lone Star Family Health Center in 2013 for Best New Medical Office Building (50,000 to 99,999 square feet), Heartis Amarillo Assisted Living and Memory Care community in 2015 for Best Post-Acute or Senior Living Facility, and Jason Signor in 2016 as Healthcare Real Estate Executive of the Year.
